Cy Pres Designation
When class action lawsuit settlements or trusts cannot be fully distributed because some recipients cannot be located or the full amount is not feasible to distribute, courts may approve cy pres distributions. Cy pres allows these unclaimed funds to be redirected to charitable organizations like the Wage Justice Center, whose mission aligns with the lawsuit or trust’s purpose.
This funding is vital to our legal aid efforts, helping us provide legal representation for low-income individuals, support educational programs on legal rights, and advance economic justice for underserved communities. By designating the Wage Justice Center as a cy pres recipient, you maximize the impact of these unclaimed funds by supporting access to justice. If you, your firm, or someone you know is involved in a class action case with potential cy pres awards, you can nominate the Wage Justice Center.
